I'm glad I took the bottom end in. It wouldn't have lasted much longer. My indy says the package he'll put together for me is good for a solid 80hp with a good 2into1. I just wanted a little more power without losing any reliability. Hopefully this takes care of it.
I am in the exact same spot. my bottom end is split apart. I took the flywheel and cases t my dealer to check the runout and give me a quote for rebuilding the bottom end. Mine had slight wobble on the front rod and non on the rear which is normal as the front is the male con rod, the only difference I had no flywheel end play. Waiting to find out what $ my bottom end will be. Inspecting oil pump noticed some scoring in the feed gear side bore areas but I do believe this is not a major concern. Make sure you do yourself a favor and pull you oil tank off. Clean it several times with gas and do the same to your oil filter mounting body and lines. Once the gas is evaporated from your oil tank fill it immediately with some cheap 20W50 and drain to prevent any oxidization to the bare exposed metal inner surfaces of you oil tank. While you are cleaning the tank out if you have a pen magnet extend it and drop it into your tank to see what attracts.
By the way what did your bottom end cost You? I just went with a upper end stock kit piston, rings, and wrist pins only cost me $700.00. It gave me the peace of mind as my cylinders were showing some signs of the the typical EVO liner separation.
I had quite a bit done. New valves, seats and guides, decked, cylinders bored .030, cast pistons, rings, slightly oversized S&S breather and breather bore bored out out enuff to clean it up, S&S crank pin, all new bearings and bushings in bottom end and gasket set, $1400. I'm just waiting on SE adjustable pushrods from the dealer.
One more thing, I removed my motor myself, and took it into the shop, then put it back in the frame when it was rebuilt, saving me a sh!tload of labor.
Wow that was cheap! My cases are already separated. I handed my cases and flywheel to my dealer, not sure what the cost will be yet, asked for a quote, but a local Indy already quoted me $1,400.00 for labor alone, not including parts. Already have the stock upper cyl kit, SE cam mid west breather gear. Nothing wrong with my heads, however I had a machine shop clean and spec them. I do not have anyone locally to rely upon to give me a cost effective reason why I should not buy the equipment and build my own.
Yeah, the indy I go to has a good rep and has been around for 20+ yrs. I think the labor was $65/hr. I was amazed when he said, $100 to torque plate and bore both cylinders. I wish those damn pushrods would get here. I want to hear it.
Well I received a "the Ouote" from my dealer on the bottom end today. I can't be any happier. $850.00 to balance/true the flywheel, includes new timken & flywheel side bearing set adjust crank end play and even new cylinder studs, & a B138 Torrinton cam bearing. All buttoned up and ready for me to have my fun. I am waiting on a S&S oil pump, breather gear, & SE lifters.
Well John I hope you don't have to wait much longer on those pushrods either.
If the weather there is anything like it is here we are waisting good riding time
Its been a while since we had temps of 15 deg celcius in January. I think thats what? 36 farenheit. So far not much of the white stuff this year. I guess I won't have much use for that snow blower this year.
