Sounds about normal wanting to switch. I went from an 02 wideglide to an 89 flhtp and never looked back. On occasion I'll jump on my wife's 89 heritage softail for a change in ride.

For example, I have an '87 Electra Glide, but have tank emblems form the '63-'65 era... and it looks pretty cool. I hate those stupid stickers and painted-on tank emblems, and even the newer ones look wacked. That is the "looks" dept.

As for the "sound" dept I cannot help except get slip ons that someone else has experience with. Hang at bike stops etc and see/hear what everyone else has and ask questions about their pipes or how they get that sound. I do admit I love the sound of my '87 EVO...
Don't take this the wrong way but how can you say stay with the newer bike when you said you have no experience with the twinkies? Tell him the truth there's nothing like being the only EVO in the parking lot and being able to maintain your own ride.

I'm on an old 1988 FLST,my ride b4 that was an 06 Superglide custom.
Well me and the taxman had a disagreement and the 06 was nada.
This bike is a better bike i reckon,it feels right.
Don't get me wrong the 06 was a good bike just not there quite.

Default Thanx!

Tank you for your Feedback! It shows exactly how I feel.
Well it is a kind of luxury problem.
I wait until I can testride it.
If I then feel WOW... I buy it right away. I think it will suit me and I will have a lot of Fun and maybe some work on it too. That is what I want.

Lynn, I am slowly realizing I made a good choice. I love my EVO even though I am in the honeymoon stage. As I look and listen to other bikes, I do love the rumble mine has and like someone mentioned in the post, it is not about the power for me, but the fact that it runs and sounds great. An evo definitely has a different sound. As selfish as I am, I am with the guy who said try to keep both bikes. Then again, if it comes to one bike, you have to get the one that suits your riding style. Don't get the one that looks super cool. For example, I love rat bobbers, however it would HAVE to be a 2nd bike for me not a primary, bec I am a daily rider who needs to carry stuff, hence I got a bagger... I have always had baggers, coming off a long relationship with a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe.

I'm with you on the rat bobbers I love the style but it may mean giving up some versatility.

I had an 06 Heritage. I got rid of it for my 97 EVO. And of course put a good wad of cash in my pocket. Best move I ever made. That twin cam was so boring to me. But before that I only owned rigid chops so it is all relative. Now I am keeping the EVO and about to look at a shovel project to go with it in the garage.

I say drive that EVO and if you like it make the swap. If you don’t down the road there are THOUSANDS of twin cams out there for sale so you can go back anytime. There aint many good EVO’s left.

Lots of guys thought I was nuts but these are guys that don’t know there a$$hole from the oil filler hole on their bikes. So for them they need that newer ride. For me I used the extra cash to do all kinds of mods to my EVO.

I just started riding this year after a 28 year hiatus. Started with a Yamaha 750 Virago, then Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. Bothe were in EXCELLENT condition and ran great, but, were boring rides.

I just bought NorthGeorgiaHawg's 1995 FLHTP. Took a test ride and I can tell, THIS is the bike I'm gonna have for awhile.

I don't really think I can add too much more to it though.
