Default Help, I am going crazy.

I drive a 2007 Street Bob with Apes - love that bike and it is just the bike I always wanted... until I saw that 90 Fat Boy, Grey Ghost two weeks ago. It has 20.000 Miles on it.
I mean, I have an almost new bike and now looking at an "old" bike. Anybody here to help me? Is it crazy going from a 2007 to a 1990 Evo?
I love the smell of gasoline and the sound of this old bike. Did not testride it yet, because of the weather.
i know there have already been discussions about tc and evo. I know both are good.
But did anyone really change back to the evo coming from a TC 96? What are your experience?

Thanks for your help!

Ollie

I do not have experience with a 96 and going "back" to an EVO, but I can advise this... I would stay with the bigger and newer motor and just modify parts on your bike with "older" or nostalgia parts to give the appearance of an old bike...even little things. For example, I have an '87 Electra Glide, but have tank emblems form the '63-'65 era... and it looks pretty cool. I hate those stupid stickers and painted-on tank emblems, and even the newer ones look wacked. That is the "looks" dept.

As for the "sound" dept I cannot help except get slip ons that someone else has experience with. Hang at bike stops etc and see/hear what everyone else has and ask questions about their pipes or how they get that sound. I do admit I love the sound of my '87 EVO...

I went from an 06 dyna to a 90fxstc, it was the best move! The older bikes ride and have
A feel that the new bikes don't have. As long as it's been well cared for
I would trade up! Also nothing sounds as great as an evo!

Your the one riding it,do what you want. Personally I wouldn't trade my street bob for anything. And I will never go backwards to a carb'd bike.
Sure my 96 doesn't have the rumpity rump idle but it definitely has the Harley rumble when I twist my wrist.
You are the one riding it,do what makes you happy. That's why we have them......isn't it

Ride the Evo and then make your decision, it would be nice to have 2 bikes in the garage. Personally, I road some new bikes after working on them for people and no comparison to a Evo bike, no soul in the new ride, just screams showroom floor.

Yep, Crazy! Dude, I like the look of the old skool bikes too. Hell, who doesn't. But, trade in my new bike for one ......NO F'N WAY!!!! Save up your quarters and buy an old skool for a second ride. That's what I have planned.

Trading in your TC for an Evo makes perfect sense to me :-) But then I still lust after a Knucklehead....

Crazy?Maybe.
Took an '08 Heritage out for a day long ride.It just felt "different"
My '96 felt "right" so I have no quarrel with keeping the '96 for as long as I can.
It may not have the power of a 96cu but at my age it isn't about power......OK maybe a little That's what upgrades are for.

As a general rule I would say your nuts going back two decades when you have a perfectly good motorcycle. Especially a nice rubber mounted, fuel injected Street Bob with apes. But the 1990 Fatboy is a pretty unique bike. It is after all the one bike released by the MOCO specifically to **** on the Japs. Its named after the bombs dropped on Japan in WWII (FAT-man and little-BOY), its bomber grey and the wheels are modeled after those that rolled on a B-52 bomber. If you ride it and REALLY like the thing, get it. If theres a way to keep BOTH, do that.... but in the end, only you know what will make you happy.
