Default RE: FXR questions

I've got a '93 FXRS-CON. It's a low rider with the sport model suspension, buckhorns, dual front disks, rear turn signal relocation kit, detachable bags, and a nice cushy seat. The seat has been replaced with a badlander, and it has the sportster Sport windshield in place of the convertable's removeable model, because, well, because that's how I got it, and that's how it will stay, because I like the way it looks.

Something that I don't see mentioned in the FXR link is that the '93 and '94 models have the internal crankcase breathers that vent into the rocker covers and exit through banjo connectors at the carburator mounts. These are channeled out into the air through a Y hose, that is snaked down under the right side transmission cover.

Not positive this is a '93, '94 only design for the Evo, but I thought I had read that somewhere (been doing a lot of that lately).

Anyhow, I'm both new to the forums, and a recent convert to the FXRS-CON which I just bought from my brother. He bought it new off the showroom floor in '93. It's in pristine condition. Always well cared for. 25,000 miles on it. The saddle bags have been stored away for safe keeping for many years after the quick release fasteners gave out. I'd like to replace the fasteners someday and get the bags cleaned up a bit for stock/nostalgia sake. My brother had converted the bike to the sport bars, which really looked wicked, but I've retro-fitted it with the buckhorns because they're more comfortable for me. And for me, a Harley has always been about a comfortable seating position. My previous bike was a 1976 KZ900. Sick machine that. Faster than hell. Ridden with *** above elbows at 80MPH most of the time.

I haven't been on a bike since the late 80's. Had my first ride on a Harley when I was 16 (some 30 years ago). I've always loved the way a Harley sits, and the way it feels on the road. My days of screamin' around on a rice burner went behind me a long time ago. Now that I'm middlin' age-wise, I'm geting back in the saddle. I just want to cruise around at 10 over and make a lot of noise with those Cycle Shack M pipes. ;-)

Thanks.

Interesting about the tank decal. The mfg label indicates it was manufactured late 1992.

Check this site out. They have my decal on the '93.

Scroll down to the FXRS-CON 1993 and the picture shows the dash on the tank.

I can't quite see a full view of your dash, so I can't really tell if they're the same.

The linked pitcure of the stock 93 FXRS-CON has the same dash as mine. Attached is a different picture of the bike, when it had the sport bars on it.

Peace,
Steve P.

It looks to me like the 88 Super Glide has the same dash as your bike and my bike.

Poke around on this site and I think you'll see that you are mistaken about which dash was used in what year. They seem to me to be all over the place, and even different in the same model years depending on the variant of the FXR model.

Rock on,
Steve P.

The FXR history page won't download, so here's a little info on FXR models. When they first came out, the only model was the FXR Super Glide 2. It was pretty much what was later called the FXRS-SP, only it had a shovelhead engine. After a couple of years it went pretty much like this:
FXR plain jane, no chrome, speedo on bars, no hiway pegs, lowered suspension, 29 degree rake.
FXRS chrome engine covers, black painted engine later on, hiway pegs, speedo and tach on tank, fuel gauge in left side gas cap, lowered suspension, originally called Low Glide before replacing 4sp framed Low Rider, 29 degree rake.
FXRS-SP chrome engine covers, later models black painted engine, speedo and tach on bars, high suspension, 31 degree rake (yes, more rake on the "sport" model), can't remember if it had a fuel gauge on the gas cap in the tank console.
FXRS-CONV "convertible" model, same as SP except could be converted to a touring model with bags and windshield.
FXRT same as SP with hard bags and frame-mounted fairing, similar to earlier FXRD.
FXLR Low Rider but with 21" front wire wheel and disc rear wheel, two piece handlebars, speedo between bars, similar to earlier FXRC.
FXRP Police model, single sprung seat, police stuff.
Then there were the heavily customized SVO models of 1999 and 2000, also the last Evo engined models. These might have had forward controls, I don't believe any of the others did.
All FXRs are rubber mounted. The frame is based on the same frame used today for the touring models.
This list isn't all-inclusive but should be a good general overview of the different FXRs- the best bikes Harley ever made.
