Cool need help identifying clutch

I was troubleshooting a clutch problem Im having on my 99 Fatboy, so I opened up the primary only to find there is an aftermarket clutch installed. Does anyone recognize this clutch? I did some research and think it kinda resembles a Barnett clutch, but not exactly.

Also, Im not sure how tight I need to tighten the 6 nuts holding the pressure plate on. I looked on Barnetts website and found an article that says 5 in/lbs, but this hardly seems right. I would have to completely compress the springs to get the nuts on there that tight.

Please help... I feel some riding weather coming on and my bike is in parts on the garage floor!

Thanks!

Those nuts look like nylon lockers so the torque specs would have to take the friction into account. I am going to guess around 20 ft lbs on those but they will be speced to the clutch basket you have on there. gotta identify the make & look for the specs from that company! put a torque wrench on 3 of them & start tightening them just until they move. Record your readings. That will get you in the ball park!
Hatch.

Well... 5 inch pounds is half of one foot pound. That being the case your springs are weak as a noodle if that small amount of torque compresses them.

The way the clutch works is when your lever is NOT pulled, the full force of springs is applied. So the springs have to be compressed by those six fasteners.

Whats the issue that made you go looking for a solution?

On clutches like that, the nuts are not adjustments...they are tightened till they "lightly" bottom out...so 5 inch pounds sounds about right.

That may be an S&S Clutch but no way to tell for sure.

Those nuts adjust the spring pressure. If you tighten them, you will increase the spring pressure on the clutch pack...An instruction set for the clutch would tell you what clearance to have between the pressure plate and the washers above each spring.

I bought the bike a few months ago and it was extremely hard to shift... I had to literally stomp on the heel shifter to upshift, and it was/is impossible to get into nuetral with the motor running, and it also pulled a little with the clutch all the way in. I figured the clutch wasnt fully engaging. So I loosened the clutch cable all the way and adjusted the clutch inside the primary, then tightened the cable back up. This is when I discovered that I couldnt get all the slack out of the clutch cable, I had the nut all the way out. Thinking it was a stretched cable, I bought a new cable, but it was the same way. Thats when I pulled out the service manual and discovered it wasnt the factory clutch... and decided I need to find out what kind of clutch it is... maybe it requires a different cable other than one designed for the original clutch?? Also, I had taken the pressure plate off and need to know how tight to tighten the nuts back up. I have them close to where they were when I started... maybe thats good enough... I dont know... I can fine tune them by pushing the bike in gear with the clutch in... at least thats what I was told!

Check out your throwout bearing and rods. Sometimes when the cable goes all the way out one or both may be bad.
