Default EV27 cam

Without trying to feel too stupid, I am swapping out my stock cam and inner bearing and it hit me ,I see the timing mark on the cam gear but I see no where to match it up too? Am I missing something, I am assuming it has to line up with something.
And yes this is my first time doing this but reading all the posts on this site it sure has been easy up until now when the novice mechanic is hiding his head in a hole.
Any help would be much appreciated

the line you're talking about missing is there, spray that pinion end (crankshaft) with starter fluid, I've seen them with the mark nearly covered by the high side of that nut, just look hard. It's there

It's there, you may need to clean the end of the pinion really good as GSXRBOY said. Sometimes you need to take a toothbrush to the area. Just make sure you use your significant others as it will make the toothbrush taste funny!!!! Also a small flashlight may help.

Default ev 27

your linnig up with the pinion gear and the oil breather gear. two marks on cam one on each other gear. also look close on the inner most cam lobe to gear case for clearence the low spot can be known to rub give it at least .010-.015 die grinder can be messy lots of break clean
ALSO if you don't check the pinion to cam gear tooth pitch with the pins for pitch change you stock cam gear to the new one/../the stock cam shaft end is color coded to match the pinion gear that andrews cam won't have any color code. bottom line you can get gear whine. torrington inner cam bearing i hope..

You were all right, they were there, breather mark was very hard to see for a blind bastard like myself.
Yes Torrington bearing was used .Added a .050 shim to bring to spec. End play was fine.
Thank you all for the help, got new rings installed and base gasket. Now to put all the puzzle pieces back together.

Might want to replace those tired lifters too while you're in there
