Have straight thru on my '86 Softail which were just too loud so fitted Khrome Werks baffles. Took the sharp edge off exhaust note so it sounds a bit deeper and, as far as I am concerned, sounds great. Also, seems to pull better.

Default Torque Cones

I am still on the fence as to which one to use but my advice would be go listen to a few bikes that have different systems installed and this will give you an idea as to how yours will sound. If you live near a city that has a noise restriction you may want to consider this as well.
There are pros and cons to each and several excellent posts that deal with each in depth from riders that have tried different systems, I will be looking into this more in the spring as well as I have no baffles in mine love the sound and the fact it pisses off my neighbour so not looking for much of a change, as for today its out to shovel (F@#Kin snow).
Ya, actually yesterday I stopped by a local bike shop and the mechanic told me about the torque cones. I ordered them. Because I have been hit once I want to keep the "loud" pipes. You know the old, "loud pipes save lives." I just hope they save ankles too. I'll let you know how it turns out with the cones. I am also going to put some new needles in the carb and get a new air filter. Hopefully this helps.

While it is a common belief that loud pipes save lives the best thing you can do is improve your riding. I have seen a saying that I believe will save more lives than loud pipes.

"Don't ride like they can't see you, ride like they can see you and are actively trying to kill you."

Right of way means nothing compared to the Laws of grose tonnage.

We at Samson totally agree with you. There is no substitute for defensive riding.
Be safe,

Big Growl Long Rifle, which are straight pipes.

My question, would you throw in baffles and why?
Thanks for the help.
Yep. Put baffles in. I have Rineharts 2 into 2s. There isn't much to the stock baffle as installed and very little back pressure. Took them out and reinstalled with the cheesy little louvers pointing towards the engine instead of away. Felt the difference immediately with the increase in back pressure and sounds better (a little).

Default New Parts

Ok so the carb is rebuilt, torque cones on, and new air filter in. Bike is running great. I also found that I my intake gasket was crushed. I'm sure that didn't help. The pipes sound great. The cones defined the sound a little more. I did notice that I have quite a bit more high end. I do have a flat spot as I am rollin on the throttle. The tech I talked to said that if I but baffles in it would even out. Not sure if I want to at this point. Anyone else notice a change in their response after putting baffles in?

I agree with you here. I was hit on my first bike by an 85 year old and she looked directly at me. I "though" we made eye contact but she still didn't see me and T-boned me.

I love to ride but don't want to revisit the pavement so I am doing everything I can, besides mounting a large blinking neon light to the bike, to be seen and heard.

I had a big difference when I put baffles in my bike. She runs a lot better with them.
