I have a question for you all, I am pretty new to carbs. My first bike was fuel injected but after the 85 year old woman took me and that bike out I now have (and like) a 95 FLSTC with carbs. I had to replace the pipes on it cause the ones I had on fell off...(Someone hacked them up pretty good.) In the meantime until I decide which ones I really want I bought some cheap pipes. Big Growl Long Rifle, which are straight pipes.
My question, would you throw in baffles and why?
Thanks for the help.
On street driven fairly stock EVO's baffles will improve low/mid range power which is where you want it. The reason it does that are most pipes are designed to look good and probably aren't tuned for the RPM range that the average rider needs. Hope this helps.
Baffles will change the sound of your bike yet increase performance. I have been looking into this as well and there are several posts on this site on this topic as well options seem to include torque cones, lollipop trick or baffles. Sampson also has a system that uses an end type cap (you can see these in the J&P catalog). I am still on the fence as to which one to use but my advice would be go listen to a few bikes that have different systems installed and this will give you an idea as to how yours will sound. If you live near a city that has a noise restriction you may want to consider this as well. There are pros and cons to each and several excellent posts that deal with each in depth from riders that have tried different systems, I will be looking into this more in the spring as well as I have no baffles in mine love the sound and the fact it pisses off my neighbour so not looking for much of a change, as for today its out to shovel (F@#Kin snow).
I purchased a set of Supertrapp Supermeg's 2 into 1 pipes ( waiting on them to deliver ) they seemed to have a good system using disc's on the end of the pipe to adjust both back pressure and noise level by adding or removing a number of disc's. They ship with 20 disc's so that they can be tuned to your liking.
I've read that you have purchased cheaper pipes for the time being, but thought this might be useful when your looking at replacing them.
