Default Pipes

What am I gonna lose if I put stock pipes back on? HP? Torque?

I have fishtails with very short baffles now.

By the way, I need to make SURE the neutral light is glowing before I hit the START button......didn't have to do that with the kawaharley.........
Folks at the petrol station thought it was funny though...........

I had stock OEM mufflers on my Ultra for years. Last year sometime, I finally upgraded to Stage 2. I kept on running the stock mufflers. The bike had the power, but the mufflers just wouldn't let it out.

I eventually had to upgrade the mufflers. Stage 2 and stock mufflers....is worthless.

Anyways, I imagine you would probably loose 5-10% on torque/hp.

I always wandered what difference it would make going from my fishtails to the 06 header and python mufflers but really the seat of my pants isn't noticing any dif.

If you have true duals and fit a stock set of pipes you may gain a little low down torque. Whether it is noticable is another matter!

I've seen that phrase on the forum before, but never knew exactly what it meant.

A separate pipe for each cylinder, with no link betweeen them. On our Evos the front pipe normally follows the line of the stock pipe, through to the right muffler, the rear pipe loops over the trans and exits behind the primary to the left cylinder.

Back in the 60s Triumph added a cross pipe between the main pipes on one of their parallel twin bikes and discovered by accident that it improves low/mid torque. So within a short time every twin maker on the planet copied them, including BMW, Guzzi, Harley, Norton, etc! Our Harley stock system has its origins in that era, but got cost engineered into the form we all know.

True dual pipe either replace some or all of the head pipes. The rear cylinder exhaust pipe is routed to the left side independent of the front cylinder. The front side is routed to the right side independent of the rear. So basically the pipes are not interconnected. Hope this helps.

Why not try some longer baffles first? I think that would be your cheapest option. You said yours are very short. What does that translate to in inches?

To avoid worrying about the neutral light get in the habit of pulling in the clutch whenever starting the bike. ( That's what I did)
