Hello fellow evo riders!
I bought a 1998 fat boy and waiting for a carb kit to show up.
Until then, what magazines are worth picking up to read?
ones that might apply to our evo engines?
or are they to old lol?
once i get it mobile, ill post some pics of it.
Thanks
Barry
Welcome to HDF from the UK. Can't answer your question about mags, but look forward to seeing what others suggest. You will have to wait until you have a few posts under your belt before posting pics directly on here, but can give us a link to another site if you have posted them there.
While you can certainly build a custom bike around a Twin Cam engine most are indeed Evo powered. In fact almost the entire aftermarket aimed at guys who home build bikes in their garages is based on late '80s to late '90s Evo Softails. And most aftermarket bobber and long bike frames are built for Evo engines. The Evo is really a Shovelhead engine perfected and they are so popular the MoCo still sells Evos brand new in a crate for around $3000. Its what's in my bike.
So most magazines about custom bikes will be Evo-centric. Magazines like The Horse, Hot Bike, and Easyrider feature mostly Evo powered bikes.
That being said there is so much motorcycle related content on the internet nowadays why drop any coin on the magazines? And they do get repetitive after a while. I might leaf through one at the supermarket while the old lady is shopping but that's about it, lol.
Below (on the right) is me reading the latest copy of Easyriders in 1973!
You could just go to your local dealer and got a needle for a '98 Sporty, re-adjusted you idle air mixture screw and spent the left over money on the magazine subscriptions. Most carb kits actually fall short on performance for the average street rider. DO NOT DRILL THE SLIDE OR CHANGE/MODIFY THE SPRING!!! This causes the slide to open too soon for all but the most aggressive street rider Hope this helps.

No magazine required. Just read the threads on this website and if you have questions ask, someone will be able to answer your question.
i bought the CV performance carb kit to put on the bike.
It has the usual stage one upgrades except it needs the carb done.
I was looking for something to read that has some content dedicated to our evos.
Ill look at the local stores that have something interesting in them.
Here is a link to my webshots page:
the bike only has 15k on it. just like new. paid 10g Canadian for it.
Couldn't pass it up LOL.

I like Hotbike. The Horse is a little too much for me sometimes with some of the articles and opinions, but it has some cool bikes in it. I still buy American Iron to read Donnie's tech articles. You can learn some awesome stuff from him.
+1 AI and Donnies colum. Check out his website as well you can order the book. I also read the bagger mags but not much in the way of EVO's but still some usefull tips and they are allways good to read on the
