My 1998 Fat Boy is basically a stock motor with 40K miles and I have always used the enrichener when needed to get it started when cold. Then I jump on and run the crap out of it. I have Bub7 2-1 and a single fire ignition/coil set up, nothing else done, never even had the heads off.... Seems like the Evo let's me run well all the time, but my 11 twin cam is a much refined drive system VS the 98 Evo... What enrichener? EFI is a much better way to go

I use the enrichener to start the bike, but shut it off within seconds and use the throttle lock to adjust rpm's. I usually let it warm up until the rear rocker box is warm to the touch.

I bought a cool little gizmo a few years ago that makes using the throttle lock easier - Throttle Mate. Maybe the best $15 I ever spent. Here's a pic:

I use the enrichner the same way. Just long enough to start it. I wait until I start feeling the heat on my legs.

The throttle mate is handy. I have had 2 of them, but have lost them both. I kept hitting them with my fingers and knocking them off. Maybe I did not tighten them enough, but I did not want to break that old star.

Heat cycling usually refers to prepping a new or rebuilt engine by running a short duration and cutting it off to cool. Then running a little longer and letting it cool, repeat

I've had the same one for about three years now with no issues. I occasionally use it while on the road also if I need to take my hand from the throttle for a few seconds for any reason.

Wow, I opened this thread expecting a bunch of "Let it fully warm up before you take off" ...Im actually surprised at the responses!

I'm pretty much the same as everyone else I guess. It was 32 degrees when I left for work this morning, I rolled the bike out, flipped on the choke and fired her up. Put on my helmet etc. and proceeded out the driveway. I short shift for the first mile or so and work the choke off. Bike doesnt seem to mind at all, and I actually like my neighbors!

Turn the choke off immediately. Extra gas on cylinder walls, washes off the oil...
I have head temp gauge, warm up to over 200 degrees. Takes awhile... Then ready to go.
