Default mpg conversion is this right?

I'll be the first to admit my math conversion skills suck. Since installing the new Killer Carb I've gone through a few tanks but today when I went out I filled the tank to the brim to check what I'm getting per tank so this is what I figured. I rode 280 km and fuel guage showed very close to the lowest on the guage without leaving the red and tank did not have to be switched to reserve. So when I filled up it took 17.369 liters to fill back to the brim again so with a converter on the net I found it showed 17.369 liters is equal to : 17.369 L = 4.58840 gal(US Liq)
OR 4 gal(US Liq) and 4.70 pt (US Liq) and 280 km is equal to 173.984 miles
So I took 173.984miles and divided it by 4.58840 and got 37.918 mpg.
Does this sound right?

Thanks John for confirmation, I'm actually surprised my math worked out. I take it I have .5 of a gallon in my reserve seeing as the specs for my fuel are 19 litres or 5.02 gallons. I also found out today while cruising with a couple guys I know that my speedo is out by 6kph which means lately I've been riding a bit faster than I thought, this doesn't mean must except I ride at the limit of being pulled over.

If that was around town cruising, 37.918 mpg is what you can expect. But if those were freeway miles, that's pretty poor IMO. Even cruising at 75 to 80 mph I get 44 to 45 mpg. At 65 to 70 mph I get 47 to 49 mpg.

No that wasn't around town that was strictly hiway doing about 70 mph for about half the tank and 65mph for the second half and hitting the throttle only once in a while. Bit of but not extreme head wind and I was riding alone.I did a bunch of searching tonite and did find other flht of similar years with stock cv carbs with much better gas milage.
The new Killer carb itself is great for performance but ya the mpg is something to look into.
This is the old carb and new carb setup 40 mm carb, 175 main 48 pilot, sportster needle, stock slide , acell acelerator pump and k&n filter with housing drilled for better breathing.
When I got new carb from dale it had 195-.174,50-.020 , med spring,n72v needle with 1 shim, idle mixture 2 1/4 turns.
Exhaust is stock header off an 06 flht with python slip ons, K&n stock replacement a/c, HeadQuarters cam and basic stock engine fairly fresh build, ultima ignition setup as per instructions, can;t think of anything else.
Maybe you fine folks can make some suggestions? I checked the plugs today as well killing the engine doing 65mph while pulling clutch in and drifting to side of hiway and plugs looked good and I'm having no problem when rolling on the throttle on the hiway getting the higher speeds.
I had a lot of issues with firsts carb that was sent to me with the overflow and that was I guess a first generation cv with round float where as this one is newer with the flat float. I hate like hell to work on this carb but really when we go out I fill my tank and my wifes heritage so any added gas milage is going to help.

I found this site a while back. It makes conversions real easy.

http://www.unitarium.com/

37mpg is a little low for highway.

For all around performance and good fuel economy, nothing can beat the stock Keihin carb. Any one of the performance carbs may get you a bit better performance at the race track but will probably not be any better on the street unless you ride like you're at the track. They will almost always get worse gas mileage sometimes by quite a bit.

Love doing metric to SAE conversions when figuring out things like gas mileage, NOT. I also have to convert currency at the same time since I never remember how much volume of gas I put in, but do remember the price and cost.

Well now that the conversion part is figured out ( thankyou Internet) I need some help increasing gas millage. I emailed Dale the builder of the Killer Carbs and he said "As far as gas mileage goes I have hundreds of customers we flh's and the stock motors with a good exhaust and air cleaner are getting 48 mpg on the road but as soon as you put in a cam the mileage will drop by 15 to 20 percent depending on the cam.
You might want to check your advance curve and go to slightly less advance dependng on where it is now.
Also I dont know if you run gas with any ethanol in it but that also causes less fuel mileage. If the plugs are burning good that is the best way to tell that the carb is set up correctly.
Thanks,Dale
Killer Motorcycle Products"

The ignition is basicly set the crank tdc to centre of hole and turn timing plate until green light just goes off, so maybe I'll retard it a bit.
As for the cam, I don't know if the other guys with these carbs have upgraded cams installed.

It also means your odometer is off and is also throwing off your MPG.

What was your MPG before changing the carb and or cam? Did you change both at the same time?
