You are still getting bypass from the check ball, the seal lip on the crank seal is made to to keep the primary oil out of the crankcase because oil is pulled out of the crankcase and not filled over the seal, if your oil tank is leaking into the engine it will fill past the crank seal and leak into the primary.

You should purchase a new check ball and seat it into the bore, read about methods of tapping the ball to seat it or using a Chevy push
tube with valve grind compound on the ball end and spin it on the seating area, havn't never had to do either so wait for a hands on member to help with the seating process.

As soon as I cleaned the little screen cap in mine it started flowing and eventually went down to a very small drip after stopping, I didn;t pull the ball out as I figured it would mess up the seal so obviously just pulling the cap will do the same thing. There is a couple remedy's out there for it, not sure where I seen it but taking a old push rod with some lapping compound to the end of the push rod ball end and lapping the seat of the ball and then replacing the ball is suppose to work.

If you have a dry clutch, then, yeah, you probably need to check the lifter screen. Although, with a real oil filter instead of what shovelheads had, I would be curious to see if anything gets trapped in the screen.

Do not use a giant screwdriver on the plug. You WILL screw it up. They make a tool just for that plug. Get one of those.
