Default Evo Exhaust

Well I've been toying with the thought of upgrading to a new Classic but after seeing this board here I'm going to keep my 96 Evo Road King. Problem is after all this time (bought it new) I still haven't gotten the right exhaust system on it. Right now I have true two by BUB with Paughco slip ons and it has lost all it's Torque with this system. In the past I had a 2:1 Thunder Header on it for a long time but I just got really feed up with the loudness of it. Before that I had the stock head pipe with the Paughcos but after about two years the head pipe cracked and after several rewelds I gave up on that system.
So now what would you guys recommend for the right exhaust for this bike, no major engine work, EV 27 cam and AC only mods. I've always ridden without a windshield until the last year which I bought a fairing and stated riding with it. My goal is to get the torque back and low noise, but not stock.

This will end up like an oil thread.
Though my opinion is any modern 2-1 will be similar in output.

Got their Supermeg on mine, see pic below. Gave me a lift of around 15% low/mid range torque over my previous TDs. Runs remarkably smooth and sweet, so I am very pleased with it. Tunable for noise, although I have all the discs in (107" motor). We've done a couple of 2,500+ mile trips on it and planning an even longer one now.

Problem is that Thunderheader spoiled you, it is a great performance exhaust and not going to run across a true dual that can match it.

Supertrap & Propipe are adjustable to get torque, Supertrap is changing discs and Propipe requires putting hose clamps over baffle holes to change back pressure. Propipe will blow out the factory packing out of the rear and get louder, I just repacked mine with better packing for $13.00 and can dampen the noise better.

Fatcat seems to be a choice for bigger engine applications but they make different baffles for them.

Ran Rinehart TD's and for looks and sound is on top of the chart but still not a 2-1 performance, probaly the best choice for TD's is to buy mufflers for your head pipes that have a removable baffle and can change back pressure but charactertistics of TD's is a torque dip. Exhaust purchases suck because they are so expensive and a gamble.

I have always heard that the best performing exhaust is 2 into 1. Mine has true dual Samson 2" head pipes and Cycle Shack slash up mufflers, no baffles. I have to say that I have all the low and midrange torque I need or want.

A different animal I know, but when I was drag racing a Kaw 900Z1, it dynoed better at all ranges with custom tuned dual 2 into 1's than the normal single 4 into 1.

I replaced my dual Thunderheaders with Supertrapp tunable disc mufflers. After a dyno tune my Hp stayed the same @ 87 and my Tq dropped from 92 to 87 only because I had it tuned to be quiet using the closed end caps. He could have had that back with a little louder tune. It still would have been quieter than the Thunderheaders. You don't have to give up the performance for a quieter sound.

Add Big City Thunder baffles to your setup. It is also worth giving them a call for recommendations. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. Also, it is not as expensive as buying yet another exhaust system.

I noticed when I bought my 95 Heritage four years ago it seemed to lack low end torque and didn't have much get up and go. It was also really loud, especially at speed.

The exhaust system looked stock, so I was a bit surprised. I examined it more closely and found that even though I had stock exhausts, the previous owner removed all baffles.

I called Big City Thunder and told them what I had and what I was experiencing. They made a recommendation and I made the purchase.

I installed their baffles between the header pipe and the mufflers. It made a world of difference and I feel like my bike has more than adequate power and the sound is great. The tone is good, it has a nice rumble, but is not obnoxiously loud like it was before while at the same time not being super quiet like a cop bike.

From a cost vs. benefit persecutive, it was a no brainer, especially with the results I got.
