#OccupyHarley
The price difference b/w them is not that big - 500 - 600...
I love my country. I love my EVO. I love this forum because of the respect we give each other and our opinions.
Having said that I would like to take issue with the title of this thread. The occupy movement is anti-american in my opinion, and I don't think the intent of this thread is to promote socialism, which is what I believe the occupy movement was about. The USA was founded on equal opportunity, that doesn't mean everyone will experience the same success. It seems to me the major complaint that is being discussed is the hypocrisy of a corporation selling the American image on foreign products. The occupy movement was about corporations making money.

Blackbear.
I just read your post about Harley having parts outsourced and you want them to be like it used to be,top quality stuff, like the good old days right.
Get with the program man. The twin cams are routinely going 100000 miles without breaking into the engines, once the teething issues like chain guides and so on. The quality,to be honest is way better than it used to be.
I can remember as a kid there was cardboard under the new bikes on the showroom floor.
Now I completely agree that a company like Harley actually now that I think about it ESPECIALLY HARLEY should have everything in their bikes, every single nut, bolt, washer and gasket be made in the USA by American citizens. That's what you think your buying when you buy Harley......right.
Everything from their belt buckles to the jeans and every t-shirt they sell, and the companies making the fabric better be buying American cotton and weaving it by americans too.
Eapecially Harley. In reality it's shameful that they don't. After all their marketing is selling a person the attitude, that Americana, the freedom.....right.
Anyways. To get back to the point the bikes are better built now than they ever were and nostalgia is just that.
Yesterday is gone guys. Tomorrow is what ya got to look forward to now.

They are both done by S&S and now both have a warranty. I'd go with cheaper.
Okay, now that I have half a brain on board...educate me, please?
The Evo turned up pretty much as I was leaving riding for a while; I come back and it seems to be sportsters that run at 74 inches. I imagine 74 inches would suit me fine; my pan was a 74 and so was my shovel...but what frames does it come in? Don't mean to be a snob, but I really don't like the way a Sporty rides. It feels like a mid-size Honda upright twin...like I'm having to sit up on top instead of down within the structure.
I used to ride what my buds called "semichopper" style. Picture a '72' ...or better, a Wide Glide with mid-range Apes. It was a look...an ego thing that I could achieve today as easily as I just described, but looking at the geometries offered today, I can see that what I'd ride better on would have a short front end and a fat front tire. A Fat Bob or a Switchback...or maybe a FatBoyLo. Is there a ride out there with that geometry, with an EVO in the frame? I can go with older if the condition is good and the bike is what I want under and around me...but I need to be sitting low.
And hey, thanks for asking me over here.

Hey there Gimp- Welcome to the forum where we can agree to disagree without throwing eggs (as I know you have seen recently).
You can do no wrong with a Fatboy period. YOu're low and "in" the saddle with good front end response and not twitchy like a long rake. Same goes for a Heritage. These both ride reeeaaall smooth under saddle. So it really would be just a matter of finding a low miler in your area that is in perfect shape and you have a new bike for half the price. Personally I think HD got everything right by 1997-1999 being the last year of the EVO.
Just don't be in a hurry and do watch for some of the sharks that you see in AZ claiming low miles (low odometer read can be manipulated) but things seem unexplainably older (Shifter and brake foot rubber for example).
Hate to say it, but a dull business guy with the perfect lawn and a tidy garage is the guy you want to buy a bike from. Not someone that looks like many of us here. Lol.
Good luck and enjoy the hunt.

should be a classic EVO, right? Crossing my fingers the lady doesn't sell it within the month!
Here is a good read I'm sure many of you have already read. http://www.hdopenroad.com/guest-arti...e-sweet-years/
I am not trying to debate whats good and whats bad. The late yr EVO's were and still are pretty bullet prof. Here in AZ i ride over 30,000 miles a yr, Ill put it up against any twin cam for maintenance cost.
I think we all agree we'd like to see them do more for the image they sell. Bring things back to the way the used to be a little more. I cant think creating new American jobs is a bad marketing plan for them to look into. Im just tired of seeing all our jobs leaving our country. By a company that sells the American Image. I'd be interested in why people in other country's buy Harleys and how much image played in their choice of brands.
