I had the spring plate come apart in my 95 ultra. Took to my local Indy to fix because I didnt have the spring tool. First off we think my mainshaft is bent because I have lateral runout in the clutch basket. Seems odd as I am a car tech and have never seen or heard of a bent mainshaft in a trans. Is it logical that's it bent or could there be other issues. I also have thought about changing clutch to the 6 bolt twin cam style will this just bolt in or will have to change the gear set also
If you grab the clutch basket at say 3 and 9 there'd is very minimal movement same with 12 and 6 but you can rotate the clutch by hand and you can see the wobble in the clutch basket and the primary chain will get loose and tight. Rear drive belt pulley doesn't wobble. Rides and shifts great. No noise or vibes just seems weird
tranny mainshaft bent is highly unlikely, IMO.... i have never heard of that....if that is bent, you would have had other problems in your tranny besides the spring plate falling apart
change out the friction plates and discs with a barnett extra plate kit and be on your way
Obviously something is bent from your description. Besides the main shaft, I would think that the clutch basket to main shaft junction might be the source. Regardless, when it all comes off, put a dial indicator on the main shaft and see what the runout is. If it's bent, you'll know for sure then.
The Indy restacked the pack with the needed plates and steels like I said its shifts like butter and no noise or vibes but I would still like to know if I could run a 96" clutch setup with the six bolts for ease of disassembly

Thanks chopper bob
You could go with a Barnett Scorpion inner clutch hub kit as an option. I just installed one last March and am really pleased with the results. The kit came with 3-sets of coil springs.
wtf???????????
really why would it wobble. i have never paid attention the 6 billion times the primary cover has been off. but this is the first clutch issue i have ever had with any of my bikes.
