Default replace coils?

I am getting ready to order some new 8.8mm Accel spark plug wires, for my 97 Road King. The wires I am replacing, look like the original factory wires. Anyway; while I am replacing the wires and plugs, would it be of benefit to replace the factory coils as well - going with performance coils, like Accel etc? The factory coils on my 97, have 28,100 miles on them. I will probably upgrade to a digital ignition, when funds allow. Any and all input is appreciated!

I never liked Accel gear, ay back in the late 80's and early 90's their stuff let me down too much.
Probably decent stuff now but it left a bad taste you know.

Can't remember the last time we replaced a coil, and whatever you do steer clear of that Accel stuff.
Taylor wires offered by Sumax, thru Drag, seem to work well.
If you feel you must, take a look at a Dynatek coil, and if heading to an ignition, a Dyna 2000i.

Accell isn;t what it use to be but I think you would be real happy with a Crane coil. And it never hurts to have a spare, I keep a spare in my saddle bag.

Thanks all again for the great input! As the oem coils still work, I will probably just replace the wires and plugs. Money is tight, so I don't need to waste it on parts that won't make much difference in performance/reliability. I will probably go with the Taylor wires.

I suggest Magnecor wires. You can buy them at like 1/3 off retail at cyberauto.com. Just call them up. That's where I bought the 2 sets for our bikes. I also have Magnecor wires on my JDM 4AGE 20v Rolla and my Esprit Turbo.

If money's that tight, don't replace the wires at all, unless they are bad. Easy and cheap test for bad wires: With the bike running, grab the wires. If you get thrown across the garage, the wire is bad. If not, the wire is OK.

Dr.Hess,
The wires are cracked in a few spots from age. I could probably just put some electrical tape over the cracks, and save a few bucks : )

Sounds like pissing on an electrical fence to see if it is on.
