I rode down to Tennessee last weekend and will be heading back to Iowa tomorrow. Over the winter I replaced the front motor mount (94 FLHTC) with a 2 piece aftermarket one which started taking a dump somewhere in Indiana. I grabbed one at the local HD dealer, borrowed a scizzor jack and swapped it out in the drive of the resort. My question is does the mount go on top of the frame or up from underneath? I can't remember. I tried to raise the motor high enough to put it on top of the frame and tried to take the plate that connects the cases to the mount loose but I didn't have the right tools. So it is mounted under the frame, (for now). I ran back over to the dealer to have it changed to the top and they ran it on the lift and said it was correct, $91 later & 10 minutes later, I was out the door. $91 to run it on the lift and not turning a wrench. The humilitating thing was in 18 years it was the 1st time in a dealers shop. At least I wasn't the other guy there. His bike quit, $400 dealer tow, loose battery cable for another $91 for his on the lift. I work too cheap back home. Perils of the road. Just want to make sure before I run another 776 miles home, where it should be. Thanks, Bear

 

Hi Bear, glad to hear you got going again. It's a bummer when you have to rely on a dealer to do something you could with ease back home.

I don't want to steal your thread but we had a similar experience en France in May last year. We had what looked like a rear tyre puncture on the outskirts of a small town - Coucy le Chateau Auffrique. Beautiful place! Our problem was that both beads of the tyre came off the rim by the time we stopped moving, so not easy to make a roadside repair.

It was late afternoon on Saturday, around the time France stops for le Weekend! And in rural France they take Monday off as well, so it was Tuesday before we could get practical help, recovered to the Harley dealer in Rheims and late afternoon before the problem was traced and fixed - a leaking rubber valve stem.

Thanks for the pics. Confirmed I wasted $91 at Smokey Mountain HD not doing the work I wanted. It should hold together until I get home so I can get it up on my lift and do it right. Thanks, Bear
