I was kind of busy last, but have some more time this morning. I have a 94 evo, and at 67,000 miles it developed a base gasket leak. I ended up doing a total rebuild, but it was also totally unnecessary. That engine was still going strong and the inside of those cylinders looked great. Compression was strong. All I'm saying is that this is the time of year to ride. If your bike is running strong, ride it to winter... or if you must, just replace the gaskets as I mentioned above. It is an easy job as I described it. Disconnect battery. Remove tanks (i have a quick disconnect on my lower fuel crossover line). Remove carb. Remove rocker covers. Remove cylinder nuts in order. As you lift the cylinder barrels there may be a bunch of fine rust flakes/powder that falls out of the barrel cylinder stud holes... be prepared. Stuff the crankcase below the cylinder barrel with clean rags to block it from debris or a flying wrist
pin clip. New clips, new base gasket seals. New rocker seals. New intake seals. Done.
NOW, if you decide to really rebuild top end... (to be continued) lol

There was also a kit called Hayden Oil Fix, it was 2 base gaskets with 2 small brass inserts that went between the crank case and cylinder in the oil way and cured it permanently.

I have tried to Google the web site but cannot find them, Maybe another recession casualty???????

But I am sure some of the after-market people would still have it in stock.

Found it here.........

I really appreciate the replies. My intention is not do anything now and ride it this summer. It weeped for 10 years, however in last month or so it stays wet at the rear right side corner below cylinder were cylinder stud is located and several drops on ground when turned off. I am heading off into the Smokey Mountains middle of next week for 3-4 days riding. Are there any chances that this problem could worse fast and turn into a major oil leak which would strand me on the road somewhere? I have never had a late model EVO motor apart, is this oil leak just from crankcase pressure? Just looking for some peace of mind. I will be doing whole top end this winter. Thanks!!

The leak will not suddenly increase. You can easily keep riding. This leak is one of the only draw backs to an evo. Factory gaskets at this site were thin, paper like crap. Cometic gaskets will stop this. Brass inserts mentioned above will also keep oil from pooling here, but make SURE if you use those inserts that the hole in the cylinder barrel does not have a lip left over from machining at the factory, and that the insert fits freely into the holes. This is more apparent when you do it...
I have a pic somewhere of how that insert can be cockeyed when buttoning up the cylinder barrel to crankcase.
