failed tappet roller? Bad wristpin bearing? First check the exhaust system for a header leak. If you've had the exhaust system off to change the cam, you may need to retorque the exhaust nuts a time or two. This is especialy so if you changed the gaskets. A slight header leak can mimic a loose pushrod. I know this from experience.
My bike, 94 evo, is noticeably louder with the ev27. The entire valve train is noisy... all on the upper end. I also am running andrews adjustable pushrods, and even adjusted properly, the system is noisy. But, I will say that the noise is more like a sewing machine operated by a steam engine lol! What I'm trying to say is that it is not like you described. Check that your lifter blocks are still tight, and put a listening mic or even a long screwdriver and make sure that noise is coming from the top end.
Did you check the cam gear size compared to the pinion gear before installing the cam?
You may be hearing the sound of excessive gear lash.
How many miles are on the lifters?
Did you replace the inner cam bearing?
How many miles are on the outer cam bushing?
Don`t accept the old wives tale about the EV27 being noisy, that is just an excuse to not solve the problem, there is more involved in a cam change than simply swapping out cams.
I have an EV 27 in my Evo, it is very quiet.
