Just bought my FXRT last year with 22,000 miles on it. It has a POS cd player in it that sticks out of the original opening by about 3/4 of an inch. My question is does a normal auto CD player fit in this opening? Do I need an install kit like in some cars? I have yet to take the fairing off of the motorcycle yet.

Not likely it came with a CD in 84...or any DIN stereo...probably originally had a shaft style cassette...so any CD install will be custom and a car kit may be helpful in getting it to work right.
