When I bought the Heritage, I figured I would be taking it off. By the time I rode the bike from the dealer to my house, I was sold on the heel shifter and I'd never be without it.
After 18 years, I'm not sure I'd know how to shift without using the heel shifter.
Just never really got it.. I've always ridden with forward controls and the most comfort I've found is my Wide Glide... So, the floorborads in general just dont feel right and that damn shifter was all in my way.. So, when I put the Ultra together, it never had a chance of being installed.. Now, what do I do with the Mack truck brake pedal on the right.. Could that damn thing be any larger?? I always find my foot being pushed out to the edge of the boardbecause if it.. I'm seriously thinking of hacking about 2-3" off it and bolting a conventional pedal cover to it.. Any tips would be welcome if anyone's been there and done that..
Nope, I took off the toe shifter instead and just left the heel shifter.
Seriously, I can use a toe shifter on a bike with pegs, but couldn't do it on a bike with 'boards. I think a floorboarded bike needs a heel shifter, but that's just my opinion.
Kept mine though I rarely use it.I've got long legs so my feet are rarely off the highway pegs.(my wife says I look like I'm riding a recliner.) Feels like it too
