replace or rebuild oil pump

If they seep oil and snugging up the bolts doesn't stop it does this mean it needs a gasket kit or something? It was rebuilt 3 years ago.

well i am back at the oil pump...and the problem is i cant get the clip on the shaft with out pushing it in.... Now when i removed the pump it had a clip on it. in my rebuild kit i have the clip and a clip ring.... could i just use the clip ring?

Well, i found a post, and that guy was having same problem....so i guess i should remove the cam cover and wedge the end of the shaft so it dont move? any thing i should know before i remove the cam cover.... 84 evo.

Loosen the pushrods, so there is no pressure on the lifters. Check the lifters and cam bearing while you are in there as something got in the pump and sheared the key. It could be one or both of the above.

Nope, when you pull the cover the pressure on the pushrods/lifters will push the cover down. While with a little luck and lots of sweat and cusswords it can be put back on. But half the time it will leak and you will just be taking it back out!!
