Random problem when starting
Hi!
I thought would be good asking, to see if someone knows what this thing is happening from time to time could be related to. Doesn't seem a huge problem, but it's rather annoying.
The bike is an Heritage Nostagia (1993).
Usually, the bike starts as it should, but from time to time, and randomly during the last two months (just a few times in three-four different days ), when I push the start button, nothing happens, except hearing a really quiet "click" sound happening at the height of the starter, while seeying the neutral light shinning a little stronger while pushing. Nothing else happens.
Then, after a few tries leaving a few seconds between button pushes, the bike starts as usual with full power, as normal. It happened both while the bike was cold and after having runned all day.
Last time I heard the click, directly tried pushing the other button I have installed directly in the starter cover, and started well.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any insight of what could be causing this.
Cheers,

Note: I replaced the full starter a year ago, so I don't think it's related to it (hope so!) . Besides, starts with full power when it does.

Wow! That was fast! Thank you VERY MUCH, D1gger!
Will read it all carefully tomorrow morning (its 1:00 am here) and hopefully get back to you if needed with all assimilated. Hope it's a quick fix I could do by myself.
Cheers, amigo :-)

This is possibly the most common and most enduring problem we seem to have with our Evos, at least judging by the number of threads on this topic.
Rather than read them all, just go right to the thread Digger has linked.

Thanks for the feedback, Uncle G!
Yes, D1gger's thread is great. Lost of information and procedures, have to study it and see what would best apply to my 1993's FLSTN, wich have the option to start the bike with the lights turned off... and trying to find that relay under the seat to clean it's contacts...
By the way, as I installed a brand new full starter about a year-year and a half ago or so, I imagine that the problem will be related to the dirty relay itself? Just guessing.
Cheers,

The relay should be under the seat, on the crossmember behind the battery, to the right of the ignition module, under a plastic cover.
If there's any doubt, replace the relay. It's only about $10.

Thanks, guys.
Another vote for making D1gger's great thread sticky!! :-) it's really helpful and well done.
As the relay in my bike must be almost 20 years old ( don't know if my father changed it while he used the bike years ago) , I decided to change the relay as you recommend, so I eliminate the problem.
D1gger, I'm really interested in your opinion about how to proceed on my particular model (1993 Heritage FLSTN):
Would you recommend to just try this and see how everything goes before adding a second relay or wiring a cable (if needed)?
Thanks again!
