Replaced to main seal on the trans. today (1998 Road King) and when I got everything back together the starter spins but does not engage...any ideas?

You got the jackshaft assembly ***-backwards, its easily done and I always test the starter before putting the primary cover back on. Check an online diagram or your manual against how you put yours back together.

Every now and then I get feisty old people at work that will do that to me. You see, I'm a Paramedic and whenever I need to check a patient's blood sugar level or put the pulse oximeter on them, I always tell them to "give me a finger". It's hilarious when some little old blue-hair gets a devious grin and flips me the bird!

Digger, 33 years as a professional Firefighter with Albany New York Fire Department. Became an EMT in late '77 Paramedic in early 79. My partner Mik and I were the first on duty paid Fire Department Paramedics in NY. God I wouldn't have traded that for anything. We still did fire duty along with EMS. In the beginning 18-20 calls in a 24 hour period were common. I should have took notes as the book would have been great!!!!

Just got back from a short ride. Thanks Spanner, the collar that the bendix retracts into was in backwards.
