I've heard this is a good cam for the evo. I would like to know what the change in performance is on the 1340 evo motor. I found out the bike I made an offer on has the Andrews EV27. Any idea what kind of cost is involved to have this done? Much appreciated.
I don't have the EV27. I just put in the S&S 510v and did a 3050 mile ride up the Cali, OR, and WA coast. bigger cam that the ev27. Obvious seat of the pants feel. Cruises awesome at 80 with plenty of room to pull past a big rig at 90. I did 90 a few times and the evo was still pull'n. Did cam, torrington bearing, S&S push rods, Fueling lifters...cost about a grand. At speeds of 70 and 75 I was getting 37-39 mpg. EV27 I think has .495 of lift, the 510v has .510 of lift, needs no head work but if ya did, it's made for it. Cam was recommended to me by Chris Rivas out of Fresno, holder of the Worlds Fastest Bagger tittle.
If it already has it, and you like it, then your good. If you don't like it, change it. You'll then have more experience in the different cams than most of us, as I'm sure the majority haven't done extensive research on the effects of different cams in our bikes.
I guess what I'm saying is don't buy a bike based on what cam is in it, but rather if you like the bike as a whole.
When I re-did mine after the fire, I went with the EV27after a bunch of reading. Did a 3600 mile trip last summer and it was awesome. Before, I was always hunting for another gear, like I was topped out and there should be more. Now it pulled great and that was loaded with my fat butt and a lot of luggage!!! The other guys had 1500 wings and my mileage was identical and I weigh twice as much...... Performance and mileage, made me happy.
You'll probably find the EV27 is the most popular cam in here. Use search, but stand back! It's a great cam and if the bike you're looking at has one, worry not. Most of us have had one or are riding around with one, in perfect bliss......
The ev27 cam is a cam for eazy starts and good for taking off on starts, its the cam I'm running , when I do change it out I'll go with the ev3 for better fuel millage.
I've run the EV27 for many years......great cam
You didn't mention if there were other modifications done that enhance the EV27. This cam was designed for heavier bikes, but work well in lighter bikes too. It has good street manners, and is easy on your Evo....
I installed an EV27 last winter, along with new lifters, adjustable pushrods, and a new torrington cam bearing. I LOVE IT! Lots of torque in the mid range now. Last week I was out on Ga. 400, and decided to really open the throttle from about 2300 rpm.
In seconds, I was at 95 mph, and backed off.....whew!
I have also rejetted the carb and installed a set of Cobra Tri oval mufflers.
Again, I am well satisfied with the cam and other changes. My bike is a 95 FLHTCU,
and at the time had about 19,500 miles on it. (bought it from a Dr. buddy who didn't ride too much).
Don't worry.....you will like it....loads of mid range torque.
