I have an 89 FLHS with 12,600 miles that I took in trade + $ for an aircraft. (Yes, I'm a Harley bunny, pardon the ignorance...) It's my first Harley and both myself and my better half have fallen for it. I'm also a pilot and she flies with me once every 25 years (now 12.5) but she wants to ride the Harley more often.
Day before yesterday I did a 100+ mile ride out to Springfield MA and back again to Boston... I ran the tank pretty much to the bottom. When I went to open the tank for refueling it did the whooosh as air rushed in. I was a bit surprised, are these tanks not vented? Isn't the fuel cap supposed to be vented?
I also think this might have been the cause of the bike stalling on the way back from Springfield. As long as I gave it throttle it would run. When I released the throttle it would stall and die. It stopped doing it as I arrived in downtown Boston and didn't do it the next day before I refueled. ??

Either your tank vent is clogged or your cap vent is clogged. Pretty sure it supposed to have a vented cap. Been wrong before though.
Right now, gliders. I belong to a club near Boston, fly Blaniks and Schweizers. I am restoring a 1965 Italian wood-construction 15 meter sailplane,. an Aer Pegaso M100S. I just sold my BD-5J Microjet to another crazy jarhead, but I still hold the Guinness record for the world's smallest jet.

That's what I was thinking. It's in the shop now for the 10,000 mile check that I didn't know if it had been done or not. I will ask when I go pick it up, unless they noticed it already. Thanks!

Gas cap clogging confirmed by dealer shop. New gas cap will be installed. (They're still dealing with the fact that my bike is older than all the mechs.)
