Default Charging Issue

'96 EGC Evo. Just started doing this. Bike starts just fine. Runs just fine. No charging issues with the battery and it dosent go dead. But here is whats going on. When good and warmed up.. Volt meter shows up around 13 volts while riding but when I get to a red light or stop sign it seems to drop to just below 12 volts at idle. At night I noticed the head light dims slightly. Question...Stator or Regulator or both?

Could be either, could also be a weak battery, or battery connection. Could also be idling too slow too or have parasitic losses. Hope this helps.

My volt meter does the same, but my headlights stay bright. That's normal for my 3 Phase aftermarket system, ( CompuFire.)

I'd check your battery.

Check your voltage at your battery with a good meter before you make assumptions. Don't forget to clean and tighten every ground.

Default Battery!

Battery! Battery! Battery!

Did I mention to check the battery? After checking to make sure all connections are good and clean, change the battery!

Testing the bat with a volt meter and checking it with a load tester are two different things. A week battery could start the bike fine but after its warmed up and riddin it could get week. I do think going to a 3 phase system is the best option if everything else checks out.

The battery is about 7 years old now. It could be possible. I'm gonna check it today before we go out. I never have a problem with start ups cold or hot. Battery has never been dead or discharged. Stays on a tender during down times and winter.

It's probably fine but you're getting close to the lifespan of a battery, even using a Battery Tender.

You got 7 years out of one battery????
Damn good job. It was my understanding that bike batterys were only good for 3 years.
