I had my '93 Softail motor rebuilt this past winter and all this season I have been dealing with a lean/intake leak problem. I have finally narrowed it down to the manifold length {the distance between the heads}. My Indy had a set of used Screamin Eagle heads that he did a valve job on and we used them on the motor. Is any body here using the SE heads and did you have to use a different manifold? I have tried 2 different carb setups and 2 different manifolds on the current Ultima R2 carb. All with the same shitty results. Any body?"
The older castings had a manufacturing issue and were removed off of basically new bikes, which created a massive surplus and they could be found pretty cheap.
Because of their size they are too big for anything smaller than a well built, heavy breathing 110" from what I have read.
I almost bought a pair for my 106" until my builder explained the whole thing to me. I opted for a worked over pair off an 88"
I always tried to stay away from the S/E stuff, however they did have a S/E manifold for both the stock CV and the larger S/E CV. I don't know if it is a companion piece for the heads or not. I don't know why they would be different than stock unless the heads are taller.

I don't know how old these heads are, but when I can get a decent seal, It runs great. I just can't get the seals to stay in place.
