I also used one from an 83, although I made my own mounting brackets! Harley actually offered the same gf batwing in a kit for FLHSs for a short while, although it was darned expensive. So that is the way to go IMHO.
I should add that I bought a secondhand Ultra fairing and looked into fitting it, but the electrics were too much for my simple brain! The Evo batwings with a full dash are constructed in a different way to shovel ones and will take some effort to adapt.
