86 FXRD Mufflers. Where can I find some?
I had asked this question on another part of the forum, anyone know where a buddy of mine can find a stock set of mufflers for this bike. He would consider aftermarket mufflers as well. Thanks for any help. Posted a little over a yr ago,got some responses, maybe some newer members might have some insight.
Later model exhausts should fit his bike. I'm running an exhaust from a 2008 dresser on my bike. I would GUESS that the latest FXR_ exhaust he could find would be just fine. Take offs are cheap.
The problem your buddy is probably having is that mufflers for that period haven't been available for a long time, because they have an unusual way of joining with the pipe. If he has stock pipes he can cut off the flared tip (about 1/8") and fit any after market muffler he wants. If his pipes have straight ends, with no flare, he can do that with no problems.
He can also fit a set of later pipes, as Dr Hess suggests, with any later mufflers, or even a complete after-market system. The SuperTrapp in my sigpic on my 1990 bike is for a 2008 bike.
