Default What do you think

I have purchased a 1999 heritage springer. Bike is in good condition nothing wrong with it other then not the original paint and seatand the bag are gone. I have a 113 El Bruto motor I would like to put on it. Would it destroy the value???? let me know

99 out of 100 times I would do the swap, this may in fact be that 1 time. Springers hold their value better and sell faster. Look for a Bad Boy sometime....

I don't know your state DMV laws, but in California once your bike's engine number doesn't match what is on your registration and title…you've got problems. If you "obey the law," and report the new engine number to DMV, your bike would cease being a Harley, and would become a custom build.

I wouldn't do it unless you were going to keep the original engine (or at least the original cases). At least you'd have the option of swapping out at a later time.

You can always roll the dice, and not report the new engine, but I wouldn't want to try and explain to some cop why the numbers don't match, if you got pulled over on a routine traffic stop.

If you don't have to deal with having matching frame and engine numbers, swap it out. You can always swap it back. Original paint is already gone, the value probably won't change much anyway... but as always, it depends who wants it. Get some pics up if you get the chance.

id do it. if your original engine is tired then do it. just keep the original engine, just in case. guarantee if some one gave me a S&S 145 id pop it in and ride. never thought about registration but now i remember the DMV checking my frame and tranny plus engine for numbers. wonder if you change out engine and tranny does that make it a special construction.

I varies from state to state. According to the above post in California it does but here in Texas the only thing they care about is the frame number.

Here in Ontario is the same thing. Buddy made his own frame and used the neck off a 68 Bonnie with an s&s motor and he had no problem getting an ownership as a triumph would you beleive. Needless to say he takes it easy in town.

I'm guessing because the VIN is normally stamped on the neck of a motorcycle frame…and if the VIN identifies the "frame" in question as a Triumph, then it must be…no matter what is welded to it. DMV must be pretty lax up in Ontario, Canada.

This would not fly in my state. The person doing the VIN verification at DMV would notice an altered frame. You can't just weld the neck of a Triumph onto a custom made frame and expect it to pass muster to actually be registered as a Triumph. It wouldn't in California. But who knows…every state is different, your mileage may vary.
