I found a guy looking to trade his 87 Softail standard for a sporty 883 hugger. I happen to have a 94. The softy has 33,xxx miles on it and has tins ready for paint right now and needs a primary gasket. My sporty needs the o ring that goes to the end of the clutch cable and that's it. The sporty has under 13,000 miles. Is this a good trade?
My trading a '96 FLHT away for '90 FXST has worked out very nicely. If you're wrenching, wrench on something you want.
I stepped off that dresser onto a Softail that had no rear brakes (M/C broke), carb spitting and popping, odometers busted and key broke off in the ignition switch. Rode it home and have fixed everything but those odometers. I care nothing for the "value" in $. You have to feel it. If riding a shitbox is you, ride it. If riding a Hamsters Ness-thing is you, go for it.
If you prefer a Softail to a Sporty, work your deal. I think you'll be happy if you do your homeworkand inspect it.

Only you can judge that.....but for my 2 cents worth it sounds like a good trade as long as the Softie is in good mechanical order.....primary gasket is no biggie and you'll probably have wanted to paint it anyway.
