Default Retro fitting signal canceling

Harley has a self-canceling turn signal flasher that came along after my '88. I've tried one of those "C" flashers with no luck, still have to hole the button down. I've been reading some threads here and there that seem to reference another part of that circuitry. Is there another part to this besides the flasher? I just figured there were contact blocks between the switch and the flasher and the lights, not an active module controlling anything. Thanks.

There are some after market pieces you can get. They work on a timer, so if you are setting at a light you may need to press it again.
On the older harley's that's how they worked!

Well, I found and bought a 91860-88 out of a TX Harley, which I'm trying to get canceled. Should have done more research.
Well, I canceled that order, and I will be getting the Badlands module. Thanks.

The early self cancelling turn signals also had some sort circuitry in the speedometer to turn off the signals after the bike covered a certain distance, in addition to the timer.

The early Harley FLT/FLHTmechanical speedometer had a "Reed Switch" to measure the distance for the AVC (Automatic Volume Control) and the Self Canceling Turn Signal Module. Harley had a kit to install on the models without the Self Canceling Turn Signals. If the speedometer didn't have the Reed Switch, the module used a timer to cancel the turn signals. It use the standard Self Canceling Turn Signal Module. To use the Harley part, just get a wiring diagram and wire it up.

The only thing that was year specific was the years that didn't use the momentary turn signal switched.

Thanks! I have the AVC, so do you think the old Harley kit would incorporate that control?

I disconnected mine, a white/green wire. It stopped the darned thing switching itself off at the wrong moments. I can now switch it on, then switch it off, also operate all flashers together, by pressing both buttons.

The original module packed up, but I bought a new one when they were still available. It is a large thing roughly the size of a packet of cigarettes, strapped to the r/h fork leg behind the headlamp unit, #68537-89C.

I still have two sitting in my junk box. I have thought about listing them on eBay.
