Default Clutch skip

1995 road king, 106 sputhe motor. A very intermittent problem...when the bike is hot, every once in a while taking off in 1st gear, like at a stop light, with a nice feather on the throttle and clutch, it will grab hard, and chirp the tire, or what sounds like a tire chirp, then skip, and chirp again, like a new rider might do the first time out with a clutch.
Plates were replaced, basket checked for wear, inner primary main shaft bearing replaced, still does it. Adjusted cable, checked ramp and hook all ok. The only abnormal thing I do is have the adjuster rod a little tighter than normal, about 1/16th, so the clutch will start to grab sooner on release. I tried with a normal setting, but it didn't change the skipping.
Like I said, it is very intermittent. Any ideas what else to look for?
Oh, original plates were Barnett 9 plate, changed to Rivera primo 9 plate an heavy spring, no change.
