While putting in the recent purchases of Andrews adjustable rods, Johnson lifters and Andrews ev27 I read something I had not read or been told. For those Evo owners whose engines contain green or black dot gears the common ev27 i.e. 291127 is not what your or my bike needs. It appears that our gears or oversized and therefore require different part number. I sure hope the seller agrees to an exchange as I recommended them in this forum. Disappointed that I could not get it done tonight. Hopefully all goes well tomorrow and she rides like she is on fire. Also installed new stock ignition as the wax on the old one had finally caused the bike to run badly. Caution, if you see melted wax change it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thankfully I was near home and therefore drove home with no problems.
Pinetop your losing me on this one?? The EV27 is made SPECIFICALLY for ALL Evo motors. Please elaborate on where you got this info from?? Something doesn't sound right at all.
I will scan and post the information sheet which came with the cam. Yes the ev27 is made for the Evo but there are different model numbers to take care of the bikes made after 1990 which have either green or black dots on them indicating the oversize from the factory. I was under the same impression you are but after comparing the gears, measuring with digital caliper and placing the new cam into the pinion gear grooves it is obvious that it does not fit my bike as presently constituted.
If anyone is contemplating the purchase of an Andrews ev27 you need to check your cam and pinion to make sure of the fit. I will post by early evening.
texas hill that is correct. when I discussed the need for a different pinion gear a mechanic at the dealership suggested that for $24.00 I could just have my old gear pressed unto the new cam. 20 minutes and I was out. I will post it either later tonight or in the am.
Pinetop
Do you know if you have green or black dot gears? otherwise the problem does not exist.
I found a link which has the Andrews install info sheet. You need to scroll down, then click on a PDF link. Here's the url http://www.hognutz.com/engine-cams/926/
Texas,
Thanks for mentioning pressing on the original gear. I never thought of that! I have a 12 ton press in my garage
PanHeadRich,
We'll I finally got around to ordering my EV27 cam. Based on your and other's input. I can't wait to see the changes in performance - with the old Road King. It will be nice having more power to pass semi's with now Next up is ordering up the Andrews adjustable lifters.
Good for you bud. I got my push rods from this seller for $109 shipped. You might want to see how that compares to others pricing. I didn't really shop it around much, so I don't know if it was a good price or not. But they did ship them right out.
