Ha, I'm a dumbass. I have both the Clymer and official Harley shop manuals. I usually start with the Clymer to get a general overview of the procedure, and then use the Harley manual to do the actual job.
Look at this, from the Clymer manual. It appears when they were plagiarizing the Harley manual, they misinterpreted the section on "refer to Transmission Case Removal, steps 7-11."
Harley : Perform steps 7 - 11 as described in the Transmission Case, Removal procedure in section 7.
Cylmer : On these models , the transmission case must be removed with the rear swing arm. Refer to the Transmission Case Removal/Installation in Chapter Seven for swing arm removal.
Yeah Joe the Clymer is a good picture book glad you are on the right track. That is the suspension I have ordered Mono's upfront and will go with the 416 or 940's. Love the pic looks like the East coast.
Cheers
I'm using my original swingarm. I have chrome wheels for the 3/4 inch axle, so I want to use those.
Inspect it close...those are very prone to crack. Just got a newer swingarm for mine...unbelievable how much better it is made. If you have aftermarket wheels, It's not too tough to change the rear wheel bearings for a 1" axle
