Default this is the point

This is part of the document I received. The others provide warnings and specific measurements for different EVO gears, color coded, and more warnings. Language used is lowest lift point, that does not tell me on combustion in cycle in my language. These instructions or for do it yourself people like me not certified mechanics. Hey, this is not a rant it is a word of caution like I stated. I would like to have this information if I were to install an Andrews ev 27 for the first time and that is why I gave the post some thought.

I hung a mirror from the bars so I could watch the lifters while I spun the tire......... THAT'S innovation.

The front lifters that is.

Paperwork in boxes is just to keep the product from getting damaged during shipping!

EV27's have wide lobes and makes finding the low side harder too get perfect, I have a old SE3 for referance, say if lobe 1 is at it's highest point, I can look at the old SE3 and see where the other lobes are but still made mistakes in lifter adjustments and a mechanic for a living so $hit happens and learn from it.

I don`t think they are trying to confuse you. To adjust the pushrod, you first rotate the engine until the lifter is on the lowest lift point of the cam. That is the simplest way to describe it.

When the lifter is on the lowest lift point of the cam, the piston will be on the compression/power stroke.

Don`t worry, you are not the first (or last) to get a little confused when installing pushrods, but once you do a couple it will become second nature.

Here`s a good graphic that shows the relationship between the cam and the stroke of the piston, you can slow it down to a crawl to see what is going on.

I've been known to use a plastic straw to feel for TDC through the spark plug hole.

It can be a bit tricky, as on the Harley quick install pushrod instructions say to turn the engine so that both lifters are at there lowest point, and then adjust both pushrods. The problem is that on an EVO stock cam there is no overlap on the valves on the intake exhaust stroke. So unless you move the engine back and forth to see if the lifters move, you could be on the intake exhaust stroke instead of firing stroke. Not sure it would make a difference, but it sure would be better to be on the heel of the cam rather than at overlap.
