Default 93 FXR starting problem...help!

I have a 93 FXR-SP that has been totally customed out. It has a turn key ignition and I cannot get it started. When I turn the key all I get is a continuious ticking sound until I let off. (Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick), the battery is only about 4 months old and I have checked and changed the relay twice before. All the wiring and connects under the side panel are neat and clean as well. I am confused at this point. Are there any suggestions out there? Oh one last thing, this all started after I recently took out the battery and had it on a battery tender for about a month. While the battery was out I changed the entire headlight assembly.

Can you tell where the click is coming from?

Have you checked voltage at the green wire on the starter when you are trying to start it?

Have you load tested your battery?

Start with a new starter relay.....I usually go through at least one a year.

Just tried it again...plenty of juice in the battery. I felt the starter when turning over and I could feel the sound more there than the selnoid. I have had it just over three years and have already replaced the relay twice... do they really go out that often?

No they don't but what could be happening is voltage loss between your battery and starter.

That is why I asked what the voltage was at the green wire at the starter.

You may need to pull your starter and have it bench tested.

I did the same thing you are before I found the real problem. For me it was a voltage loss between the battery and the starter. On my bike I could just run a fused jumper between the battery and post 30 on the starter relay.
I have had no more problems since doing this.

Depending on if your starter is good and what type of bike you have you may need to add an additional relay to solve your problem.

Other people have told me that adding an additional ground wire to the starter helps.
