Default question about 21 inch front wheel...

I want to lace up my stock front rim with standard round spokes and nipples, just to have as a back up.

When I bought the bike it came with twisted style spokes and the nipples were in bad shape, all rusted

Friend of mine has a stock 99 front wheel and so can get it for dirt cheap. I know the hubs are different (speedo cable). But can I pull the spokes and nipples and lace them to the 91 hub and rim?

Hope to hear from someone?

Someone will have to confirm this but I think the wheels are the same as far as the speed-o pickup goes, the difference is that the rotor has to have a knotch for it and the spacer(s) are different.

Thanks Doug... I'm not entirely sure when they switched to electronic speedos, but the spokes and nips should be the same for both years, regardless, no?

Also, the rotor on my 91 FXSTS is on the right side, so...

If all you are concerned about are the spokes then just measure them, I've never laced a motorcycle wheel but I've done bicycles. As long as the hubs have the same number of holes, the same diameter and the spokes are the same length you are good to go assuming the rims are the same.

I've been looking to replace my front wheel this year, the bearings/races are 19 years old, the stock galvanized spokes have seen better days and I'm going to a 120/70-21 tire so a wider wheel is needed. I have not seen anything stating a difference between mechanical vs electronic speedo-o's when purchasing a new wheel so I assume there is no real difference other than what I stated above. Now you mentioned it being a Springer, not sure if that matters but just measure it and I think you will be fine.

A 120/70-21 is what I have on there, now... It's a metzeler mounted to a 3.25 rim... looks amazing but i'm just not a fan of the Metzeler.

Going to measure things up and see what's what.
