Default Anyone with 99 evo?

Hi fellow enthusiasts. I'm seriously now considering buying a 1999 FLSTC Heritage. I had test ridden a 95 FLSTN, but some of it's history was unknown. For this reason, I continued searching. I found this one and it is a one owner, low miles, and stock. Just wondered, for those who've owned this year evo, what your opinion is of the bike. Do you think the 99 would ride any different than the 95? Would be the first evo for me, heard pros and cons about them compared to the twinkie. I do a lot of two-up riding also, and planning the smokies and longer trips with it. Thanks for the input.

i have a 98 low rider. motor has lots of torque and i only have it jetted with a high flow air cleaner and pipes. not cam. it's a cool bike and with a slightly upgraded suspension, it has gone on several, several hundred mile trips. all solo though so i cant speak for this era dyna 2-up. sorry.

I don't think you notice any difference when riding a 95 or a 99 stock EVO. I had a stock99 and now run a 94 that is modified, both have been good. By the time the 99s were made, the Motor Co. had worked out all the bugs in the Evolution motor with the exception of possibly the cam bearing. On a stock motor they last along time but it would not hurt to change it if you are ever in the cam chest for anything else...Get the 99, it's generally a solid engine..

1984 - 1999. There was an overlap with the Shovel in 1984; only some models came with the Evo engine. In 2000 when the twinkie was introduced in most models, the Evo was still produced but found only in the FXR4.

there are no drawbacks to the '99. My personal favorite and arguably the last of a by gone era. If she's clean, it will be your favorite ride.

Sounds real good so far. I'm going to try to go get a good look at her this weekend. Obviously I want to hear her start and idle. Would you guys buy without riding it? Of the bikes I've bought in the past, the owners have always let me take it for a spin. Is there a way to check the gears without riding? Anything else to look for on this model? I'm in the northern midwest (weather) plus I don't know how the owner would feel about a ride.

yea, that's tough with the weather. Isn't the middle of the road out front ice free? You don't need to get it past 3rd gear to get a decent idea if that's all you can do. Just make sure that you warm her up 100%. Don't turn off the engine when you get back. give a good listen for out-of-place clanking noise. Look for smoke or any leaks, etc. Is it easy to put into gear while sitting and back to neutral? Then of course go with your instinct. Low miles, good price allows for a bit a leeway.
I bought my '99 site un seen some years back. A trucker friend of mine was going to be up where the bike was and could pick it up... a bit scary, but you can tell a lot about the owner if you listen. Hope the ride is sweet,
good luck.

Got a 98 Fatboy and a twinkie. Like em both for different reasons. Replace the cam bearing and you will be fine. Put in a better cam while you are there. The base gaskets may weep a little but no big deal....

Buy it.....

First Twinky was in a 99 super glide. 2000 twinkys were in everything. Last Evo as I know it was 99 like in softails
