You don't need teflon paste on the petcock. I have yet to use anything but a wrench on my petcock and I have no leaks.

When I had my issues and was replacing my petcock with the pingel I mentioned I would use teflon tape and I'm pretty sure it was you that advised against it. No teflon tape, and no problems.

Tape bad. Service manual calls for Teflon paste.

It may call for it but you don't need it.

I have been running a Pingle now for over 2 1/2 years on 3 different sets of tanks. I have yet to have a leak.

I'm not arguing, just stating the facts. Everyone on the forum harps on "get a service manual", just putting out there what it says, especially for a FNG. You might get lucky and have it not leak, but what a way to ruin a ride if it did.

That makes me wonder how much difference there is between a Pingle and a Harley petcock. Maybe you do need it with a Harley petcock but not with a Pingle. I don't see how much difference there could be.

I tried finding one but can't seem to get lucky. Cardboard came from the Caribbean, wife made me put it down because I was cleaning and waxing in her art studio.
Thanks! (No wonder my bike was giving me fuel grief.)

Anyway, long end down is usually on.

I would drain the tank and pull the petcock to inspect the screen anyway,
After 24 years, no telling what's in there.

If it's dirty, it'll clog the bottom portion of the screen and the reserve may not work.
Good idea, but the Harley shop here in Boston did that already last summer when they did the 10,000 mile check.

BTW, the one time I did get full-on fuel starvation was when the gas cap vent got clogged. I couldn't figure out what the heck it was (I knew the tank had gas) until I opened the gas cap and it went "WOOOOSH!" Bingo. It ran fine until enough fuel got sucked out that it created a partial vacuum that would not let the fuel come down.

And regular teflon tape is not good for this. The gasoline will attack the tape. Neither is the yellow teflon tape, which is supposed to be good for applications with pretroleum products. It's not "teflon paste" either, it's Loctite Pipe Sealant with Teflon (or technically, PTFE).
