I have never looked closely at the filters being discussed here, but dirt bikes all have this kind of filter. After every ride, so it was ready fror the next ride, I would rinse out the dirty filter in gas to get the oil out. Then let it air dry, wash it in a sink filled with hot water, and let it air dry again. Then I would pour oil into the dry filter, squeeze out the excess, and put it back on my dirt bike.

Of course off road riding is different, but sometimes the amount of sand in the sink was amazing. I would use this type filter in my Sportster except for the cost someone else mentioned. And I don't ride enough to make it matter.

With product rights to Charmin and Kotex, it would be possible to make one hell of a filter. Tiawan child labor chrome housing with HD stamped on it, proven cleaning base core that can target owners of tempermental engines and capability to absorb leaks. Caution label of must use with synthetic oils and throw in a cooly cup with a family pack purchase, I still wonder why I go through life poor with ideas like this.

I use a K&N engineering unit on a 85 FXR. Clean and soak with kerosene for 30 minutes while dumping and filling other holes with your choices of lubes. Sling out excess kero and rinse with gasoline and dry with low amount of compressed air. Fill with some oil and reinstall. Fill tank and your done. Use leftover kero to clean tractor motor or lawn machines. I like it because of the ridges in filter cup helps with cooling.
