Hey rich do the sportster buckets have that big connector in the back like ours. The fxr bucket has alot going on in there
Man, you aren't kidding that there's a lot going on in there. A couple things concern me. Even with the deeper Sportster Bucket I don't know if it would accommodate the LED and all the wiring & connectors. Another concern is how hot the heat sync on the LED gets. I guess you could plug it into your H4 connector, leave it on for a while then touch the back of the LED to check for heat. If it's too hot to keep a hand on, it's too hot to be resting against the wires.
I won't know for sure until a dig in deeper, but it looks like that wiring could be removed from the bucket and tucked under the shroud bracket. I'd shrink wrap the connectors to keep moisture out. I'm going to be installing a Rifle Roadster Quarter Fairing which will make tucking that wiring easier. But yeah, that turns a 1/2 hour bucket swap into a 3 hour job.
The Sportster bucket does not have that connector on the back either. My fork has the Air Ride suspension making it even more challenging. There's an air hose right behind the bucket that won't allow me to fit a Sportster bucket without relocating the hose. I'm sure I'll figure it out once I get taking things apart. But that won't be until it gets too cold to ride.
I have a plan. Ordered a $20 sporty bucket off ebay. Im gonna cut it up and add a part of it to my bucket. I will take some pics IF it works.
That sounds like a great idea. I'll look forward to seeing the pics, thanks. I might be able to do the same. I'd need to extent the front portion outward to avoid moving the air line going into the fork. Any idea how much of an extension would be needed?
so I ordered the sporty bucket for 20 bucks and cut the outer 3/8th off. This way I can attach this to my existing bucking with extention piece without sacrificing my original bucket. I would just have to drill out 4 rivets to remove and back to square one. The strip I used was 1 1/4" in width. I think it came out great on my bike. Your not going to see it at all. I covered the seem with carbon fiber tape?? Heres some pics
