Change the oil,check the age of the tires setting for 8 yrs can affect alot of things. Assuming it was in his living room it didn't get run much. Spend your available cash on a service/parts manual,tools and a good lift because most HD stealerships wont fix em n the Independent wrenches want 80$ an hr or more.
Ride it for a season n get to know your bike,after you've had it long enough to give her a name you should know what you want to do w it. Ask the guys here about any upgrades ya may consider cuz most of us have already been where you wanna go.
I figured out what I wanted to do then began to accumulate parts but did a ton of research. So much so that I didn't need my service manual n do 99% by memory. ...yep got that there OCD **** fer sure.

Seriously, if the problem is as I've been told that people who read forum on cell phones can't change the see related threads settings, why can't whoever runs the forum change that? This is getting old.

You can change your settings to where you no longer see the related threads.

That would be a good first step but you still have to go into User Cp then down to settings and options then take off related threads.
