Default Oil leak/ bubbles

Hey guys I have a 99 fxstb I got a few months ago, 60k. I just noticed today when I started her up oil bubbles coming out of where the cylinder connects to the block. Im not very mechanically inclined so I called a buddy of mine who quickly diagnosed it as a blown base gasket, does this sound right? Is it safe to ride (with out doing more damage) until I can have it fixed, or do a big bore kit.

thanks fellas

Common leak on Evo's. Can be fixed by you if your fair with a wrench or pay someone to do it for you. Do a search on base gasket leak.

I ignored mine leaking for couple of yrs. Got tired of cleaning motor oil off my bike, so I pulled jugs & heads off & fixed it. Plus put in a few extra goodies. But no, it won't hurt your bike other than make a mess. Freaked me out , too when I first saw the tiny bubbles.
Ride Safe,
Harold

Unless it's "Really" blowing oil out, no. Most , when they put new base gaskets in, they do new lifters, cam bearing's & other performance mod's when they have it tore down.

I don't think it will affect performance. It's crank case pressure making the bubbles, not cylinder compression. I fixed mine after a couple years of cleaning it up. Did a little cylinder and head stuff, tightened her right up. Then my crank pin started crunchin, had to get the bottom end rebuilt. I'd just ignore it for a while and get a good feel for the rest of it, those bad base gaskets aren't hurting anything, just your pride.

I lived with mine leaking for a couple of years. When you do fix it just use good quality gaskets. This was a common problem on earlier Evos and later gaskets are superior to the original ones.
