Bikes with kick starters only need a glimmer of battery life to get them going, but a one horse power plus starter needs a hefty kick from the battery to wake up a bike that has sat a few months.
My opinion only ...
What i have found is that any lead/acid battery looses almost half of its potential when its cold . The battery tenders help with this by keeping the battery charged over an extended period of non use.
I see you live in Ohio and have winter periods of cold weather and non use of the bike as i do in my location.
What i do is remove the battery and store it in a warm dry place over the winter while giving it a trickle charge once every 2-3 months just to keep it happy. Ive found that a good quality battery will need next to nothing to keep it at peak in a warm environment .
