I just bought a cheap Drag Specialties tach for my bike.
It turned out the bracket was too tall so I thought just cut it off and drill a new hole. No problem.
Turns out it was a very big problem as I couldn't get a drill bit to bite this stuff.
I went through 4 conical grinding bits to get almost all the way through then used some carbide drill bits to get the rest of the way. When drilling the metal turned a bright orange but I got through.
I have never seen any metal this hard.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be made of??
Have run into that Best I could tell it was a funny kinda stainless steel. That and styainless work hardens, that and heat treat it it becomes very hard. Have seen stuff that even a cut off wheel can barely get through. Turning orange makes me think of some stainless we have worked with.
