Last year I woke up one morning with what felt like the worst flash burns I've ever experienced (don't ask why I've experienced any). Anyway, the difference was that when I'd blink, I felt a scraping on the inside of my eyelid. Hurt like a mother!! I tried to live with it for 2 days and couldn't take it anymore, as it wasn't getting any better. I couldn't sleep and my eye would water so bad it'd actually soak my pillow. I really didn't know your eye could water that much. I finally went to the eye guy and he said I had a piece of metal that had started to rust and the only way to get it out was to drill it out. WHAT!!! Oh yeah, drill it out.
I tell this story to you because I would ask that no matter what advice an idiot like me could ask of you, tell him to wear safety glasses. Even if he asks advice on the best hard-on medicine, tell him to wear safety glasses.
OK OP, back to you. If we didn't run you off.
Ran off no wont happen but I now know people are to sensitve here and will only talk bikes here. I took the fuel injection back off all plugs were in and nothing seemed to be out of the norm so put it all back together and now it runs good. Well now I can put the new air cleaner on and do the map.

Good for you. There is lots of good advice on here. And we talk about a lot more than bikes. Stick around.
All of the motorcycle coppers I know just start it and take off. That said, they don't own their rides. Generally, I wait about a minute and ride it gently for about the first 5 miles. A
About HD dealers...they treat me really well and most go out of their way to try and locate obsolete parts for my bike.
Unless you live in a real small town they are ridding twinkies that have a totally different base gasket that is why they start and ride.
I go when the rear is hot to the touch and take it easy for the first little while.
If you dealer sucks find a new one mine is top notch when it comes to parts.
Cheers
We need to put this base gasket nonsense to bed! Early Evos suffered, as did my 1990, which I bought new. Replacement gaskets are fine and the darned things haven't leaked since. I don't believe any well rebuilt Evo, done fifteen years ago, leaks today!
So let me get this straight. You blew a head gasket because you didn't warm it up. That's a new one on me.
AND..........
It ran fine before you tore into it.
Why then, did you change the head gaskets?
You seem somewhat angry about HD's choice of employees. Guess you got a bad batch. The parts guys as well as the shop guys at my HD dealership are as good as gold. Can't say the same for the sales staff, but only because I've never dealt with them.
Hope you get it figured out though.
Welcome to the best HD site .
Can you elaborate as to why you think you blew a head gasket ?
Do you have a proper manual and did you use it when doing this procedure ?
Your symptoms of high idle rpm and OIL PRES. WARNING LAMP COMING ON are definate indicators that you ****ed up this procedure.
As stated ... look for the simple trouble first , check your efi wiring etc. and determine that all is well there .
Check why your oil warning lamp is coming on and do not run up the motor until you confirm that oil is being sent to were its needed.
Come back with what you find as we are here to help.

I start mine up and go! Ive never had a base gasket issue ever, but, I do take it easy the first 4-5 miles before I go twisting the throttle to much. Quickest way to get the bike warm is ride it in my opinion...I know I read that somewhere.
