Default Would ths indicate a problem?

On my new evo, wanted to do a couple test runs (drain full tank) on fuel mileage, etc. On the first run, I only got 12.6 miles on reserve. This sent up a red flag as I figured with .6g reserve and 43mpg, I should have been good for at least 20 miles? On test run #2 I only got 8.5 miles? When I refueled I visibly noticed fuel splish splashing on both sides? Was thinking a little more about this and wondered shouldn't resereve run you "bone dry"? Does anyone know if this indicates something's plugged or maybe a faulty valve for the fuel transfer? I'm not sure how the system works, but it doesn't seem like there should be as much visible fuel remaining as I saw. Thanks

I would be surprised if the tank will run bone dry, as I don't think they are that well designed! It would be worth draining your tank and removing the petcock, to clean both it and any crud from the inside of the tank. If you have a dresser with a balance pipe, remove and clean that as well. That will remove any possible impediments to getting out as much as possible.

X3 on pulling it and cleaning but over the years, I've run them empty more times than I care to admit. The tanks were empty, not bone dry but only a tiny amount rolling around the bottom. As you are running low the fuel in the bowl keeps you going and as you lean the bike, the little bit in the tank sloshes down and refiles the bowl until there is just not enough left. My reserve never worked well on this bike and last year I ran out about a mile from home, I kept leaning the bike back and forth and it would give a little power then die again. A homeowner gave me some lawnmower gas and I remember looking in the tank first...that thing was empty..Got a pingle now so all is good...lol

Took my petcock out to clean tanks this past winter and seem to remember the reserve tube in the filter is up about an inch from the bottom of the tank. The main tube was up about 2 inches. Probably like that to prevent sucking whatever crud may be rolling around in the bottom.
